Privacyware.com, the security solutions division for PWI, a
leading software technology and professional services firm,
announced today that it has created a product that will
check and then close areas where security holes can exist in
PCs running on Windows and NT each time the PC is booted.
The product is fully automatic and requires no user
training.
"These security risks are the
places", noted PWI's chief executive officer, John Devine,
"where anyone with a fair knowledge of Windows can get into
a PC and read, copy or destroy any file or piece of
information on the hard drive. Very often in our experience
users don't even realize these opening exist on their
systems and that they are so obviously vulnerable.
Unprotected, any PC can be accessed remotely by a third
party.
This potential for having
personal information easily available to others is magnified
if a cable modem is used to connect to the Internet or other
network.
"We've developed
Privatefirewall as an integrated, value-added security
component to complement the offerings of Internet Access
Providers, ISPs, and other communications and software
service providers. A consumer version will be available for
download at the Privacyware.com Web site later this Fall."
